On my way home at the train station yesterday a Netherland (Holland) couple approached me and asked for direction. They wanted to know how to get to T. Pagar from Expo, so I there I was giving them guidance.
While waiting for the train to come, we have a good conversation where I asked where they came from and where are they heading. I found out the guy was a 65yrs old pension, travelling around the world with his wife, back packing. Each with I gauge say 35kgs a back pack and another harvest sack. I like the idea of how they travel. If I would be still a fit old woman in my 40s and rich, I would not mind doing some sightseeing in other parts of the world this mode. They told me they have left home in Amsterdam since Dec 2005 and had seen a few places like Bali, Ozzie etc. Singapore for transit and off to KL today. And a whole long list like NZ, and many Asean places. 11 months a total they would be away from home. How nice yeah. Leaving a sports son, 28 and teacher daugther, 30 back home.
Despite a short conversation, we have learnt a far bit of things both directions. They thanked me happily before heading town direction whereas me home.
I dropped off the train feeling very exhilarated. It is rare scene that you see local folks here talking to you in such hearty manner be it aquaintance or strangers. But the foreigners are different, they communicate well and they are very friendly. It sorts of brightened up my day and took away some hunger. I was starving then u see.
I feel happy talking to people, perhaps I should switch line and do PR. But I lack the looks then. Hmmmm... I shall harbour this little delight within for now..
Back to work.. Yawnnz
